What the meta tag checker reviews
We load the page and read the tags in its HTML <head>, along with any X-Robots-Tag header. Each check gets a status, the exact value we found and a fix when something's wrong.
- Title and meta description: present, length in characters and duplicates.
- Canonical: missing, multiple, or pointing to a different URL.
- Robots: whether the page is blocked from indexing with noindex.
- Viewport: needed for the page to display properly on phones.
- Open Graph and Twitter card: the tags behind link previews on social media and in chat apps.
- Hreflang: language and region alternates, checked for valid codes, duplicates and x-default.
Why meta tags matter
The title tag is still one of the strongest on-page signals of what a page is about, and together with the description it's your ad in the search results. A clear title and a description with a reason to click can win more visits from the same ranking. The other tags prevent quieter problems. A stray noindex can drop a page from Google entirely. Duplicate canonicals confuse which URL should rank. Missing Open Graph tags make every share of your page look broken.
The preview above the results shows roughly how the page could appear in Google, so you can judge the wording as a searcher would before you change anything.
How to fix what it finds
- Missing or duplicated title: give every page one unique title that leads with its main topic.
- Too long: cut filler words and brand repetition so the key message fits before the cut-off.
- Too short: add the service, location or benefit that sets the page apart.
- Unexpected noindex: check your SEO plugin settings and staging leftovers, then remove it.
- No social tags: most SEO plugins (Yoast, Rank Math, Shopify themes) can generate og: and twitter: tags. Set a 1200×630 share image.
